Why Should I Consider Clear Braces?

Clear braces are becoming more common among patients of all ages. In past years, orthodontists chose traditional metal braces to straighten crooked teeth. However, there are advantages to using clear options instead. If you do not want your orthodontic treatment to hinder your smile, you should not have to worry. Repair your teeth without anyone knowing about it.

What clear braces can address

From a young age, orthodontic problems can manifest themselves in a person’s mouth. Orthodontists recommend that parents start treating issues when the child is around the age of 7. However, even teenage and adult patients can benefit from teeth-straightening methods. People with the following conditions find relief:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Overbites, underbites and crossbites
  • Crowded mouth
  • Gaps in the mouth
  • Misaligned jaws
  • Chewing and speech dysfunctions

The benefits of clear braces

Clear braces are not noticeable

Traditional braces consist of metal wires and brackets. These put pressure on the teeth and move them into the right places. While this treatment can be effective, patients may struggle with self-esteem and self-consciousness. These braces stand out and can hinder the patient’s smile. Clear braces are made of ceramic or plastic and are practically invisible. The wire is usually made of stainless steel and can also come in a clear option. Even someone standing close to the patient may not realize they are wearing the braces.

Clear braces do the same work as traditional braces

Some people may worry that clear braces will not straighten teeth or correct orthodontic issues as well as traditional braces. The truth is that the clear variety uses the same mechanisms to move teeth and achieve the results the patient wants. The orthodontist begins by taking X-rays and making a mold of the patient’s mouth. The orthodontist then creates a treatment plan, including how long the patient will have to wear the braces. At the next appointment, the orthodontist attaches the braces to the person’s teeth using cement.

Fast treatment

Thanks to improvements in technology and orthodontic methods, treatment with braces does not usually take as long as it did in previous decades. The same goes for clear braces. Patients can notice significant improvements to their smile in as little as one year. Most patients will not have to wear them for more than two years. Because both traditional braces and the clear options take the same amount of time to straighten teeth, it makes sense to go with the clear choice.

Flexible financing

Many orthodontists will not charge more for clear braces than for metal ones. Families and patients can make monthly payments and work out a financing plan that fits their needs and capabilities. Also, most dental insurance policies will cover clear braces.
